Unlinked Mention Finder

Check candidate pages for your brand name and existing links. Review mention excerpts, see where a publisher already links to you, and export the pages that need a closer look.

Check brand mentions

Bring your candidates

A publisher has mentioned your business, but the name is not clickable. Before asking for a link, check the rest of the page. There may be a source credit below the article, a linked product name, or a link to another domain you own. This tool helps you make that distinction across a supplied list.

Enter your brand phrases, the domains that belong to that brand, and the full addresses of the articles you want checked. Live URLs reads the HTML returned by those addresses. It does not search the web, discover new mentions or monitor your brand over time. Use candidates from your research, press coverage records, alerts or a discovery service.

Start with a distinctive business or product name. Include a genuine alternative spelling when publishers use one. Avoid broad words that could identify many unrelated businesses. The checker matches phrases, not identities: an article mentioning a similarly named company can still appear in your results.

Set the right scope

Owned domains determine which destinations count as existing brand links. Include your main site and any relevant official product or regional domains. Keep unrelated sites out. With subdomains included, a link to shop.example.com counts for example.com; a link to notexample.com does not.

Mention area controls where the brand phrase is searched. Auto uses the first main element, otherwise the first article, otherwise the body. Navigation, headers, footers, sidebars and forms are excluded from mention text by default. Open Source text in a finding to confirm the intended article was selected. An explicit area that is missing is reported as uninspected.

Links are checked across the HTML document even when mentions are restricted to the article. This is deliberate: a footer credit can explain why a page is already linked. Review its location and anchor wording before deciding whether an additional editorial link would genuinely help readers.

Unlinked Mention Finder report separating a review candidate, existing brand links, an owned source and uncertain link evidence
An illustrative inspection of six supplied HTML snapshots, not live publisher opportunities.

Read each finding

Review candidate means a supplied phrase appears in the selected text and no direct HTTP(S) anchor to your declared hosts was found in the inspected HTML. It is a useful review queue, not confirmation that a publisher should add a link.

Brand link present means both a selected mention and a matching destination were found. Open Brand links to see the URL, anchor, location and any rel attributes. A nofollow, sponsored or ugc link still counts as a link. Google describes these attributes in its outbound-link guidance; this report does not estimate ranking credit.

No selected mention means none of your phrases matched the chosen text. Check spelling and extraction before dismissing a page. Owned source identifies a page on a domain you declared as yours, so it is kept separate from third-party outreach candidates.

Link evidence uncertain appears when a mention is found but unresolved destinations or the anchor scan cap prevent a complete link-absence check. Not inspected covers unavailable sources and extraction failures. Neither state is silently converted into an opportunity.

Check before outreach

Open the original article and read the surrounding paragraph. Does the mention refer to your business? Is the information accurate? Would a link lead the reader to the source, specification or explanation being discussed? A link to a relevant product page may be more useful than a generic homepage request.

Look for linked images, buttons and tracking addresses too. This checker resolves direct anchor destinations but does not follow every outbound redirect or execute JavaScript. A tracking URL may ultimately lead to your website without matching an owned host in the initial HTML. That is a reason to review the page manually, not evidence of a missing backlink.

If a request is appropriate, keep it specific: identify the article, point to the relevant passage, and explain what the destination adds. Do not present an unlinked mention as a debt the publisher owes. Their editorial decision, disclosure requirements and linking policy still apply. No outreach messages are sent by this tool.

Use saved HTML

For authorized saved sources, choose HTML snapshots and import a CSV or TSV with exactly two columns: url and html. Quote cells containing commas or line breaks. Plain text is not enough here because it cannot preserve the links needed to assess whether a mention is unlinked.

A snapshot is inspected as supplied, not verified against the live address. Missing navigation, credits or other markup can change the finding. Live checks also have boundaries: they do not log in, use your browser cookies, run scripts or inspect embedded documents. Where those details matter, review the rendered page yourself.

Download Pages CSV for a review queue or Report JSON for the full evidence, selected text, inspection time and source notes. Submitted HTML and reports are not stored in WordPress. Do not submit credentials or confidential material; hosting and verification-provider policies apply separately. For a detailed look at one page’s link attributes, use the Dofollow/Nofollow Checker.

Questions

Does it search the whole web?

No. It verifies the candidate URLs or HTML snapshots you supply. It does not discover pages, monitor new mentions or use a search-provider index.

Does a nofollow link count as unlinked?

No. A direct link to one of your declared domains counts as a link regardless of its nofollow, sponsored or ugc attributes. Those attributes are shown for context, not treated as missing links.

Why is an existing link shown even though the brand mention is not clickable?

The checker looks for brand links across the HTML document, including navigation and footer links. A page can mention you in its article and link to you elsewhere. Review the placement before deciding whether another link would help readers.

Are candidate findings verified opportunities?

They are review candidates, not confirmed outreach opportunities. The phrase may refer to someone else, a supplied snapshot may omit markup, or a tracking link may redirect to your site. Check the original page and editorial context before contacting its publisher.
