A focused starting point for backlink research
Backlink Checker
Find links to your website in English Wikipedia. Review the source articles and destination URLs behind up to 50 matching records, then turn the sample into a useful next step.
Evidence, not an unlimited total
Choose a target, then a scope
Check backlinks to a domain or page
Use a domain to investigate a website, or a full URL for a specific destination. Complete the human verification shown in the form and run the free lookup.
Free source: English Wikipedia. This lookup searches its recorded external links, not the whole web. Results are a bounded sample of up to 50 matching records, not your complete backlink profile.
Free Wikipedia backlink lookup
Source: English Wikipedia / Wikimedia Foundation, via its public external-link index.
Free sample analysis adds article and destination counts, mobile cards, destination rollups and optional filtered CSV/JSON downloads. Filters work only on the returned sample and never expand source coverage. New lookups identify index-response retrieval time, cache status and bounded coverage; older cached fields remain unknown. This is not a page-crawl or link-discovery timestamp. Review notes stay in this tab until you export them or voluntarily add them to the inquiry.
Optional indexed backlink report
The free Wikipedia lookup above remains separate. This report uses one owner-authorized DataForSEO or Ahrefs response, not a complete web census. Source status and dates are not independently verified now.
Setup required: an administrator must connect and authorize an indexed data source. No provider request runs from this panel.
Your submitted target is sent to Wikimedia for this online lookup. Avoid confidential or unpublished addresses. Read our privacy policy before entering sensitive information.
A scope answers a specific question
Choose the right target scope
Start with the broadest scope relevant to your question, then narrow it when investigating a particular resource. Narrower scope does not add coverage outside English Wikipedia.
| Scope | Use it to investigate | Example input |
|---|---|---|
| Domain with subdomains | The domain and its child subdomains | example.com |
| Exact domain | Links to the specified hostname | example.com |
| URL prefix | Destinations beginning with a particular URL or path | https://example.com/research/ |
| Exact URL | Links matching the normalized page URL | https://example.com/research/report/ |
Free mode defaults an omitted scheme to HTTPS, lowercases hostnames, removes trailing host dots and default ports, and ignores fragments. It keeps www, paths and query strings; it does not follow redirects. Keep the same source and scope when comparing results, and review the normalized target in the report.
Move from a count to the supporting records
What the free lookup helps you review
The useful question is: which English Wikipedia articles have recorded links matching this target? These views organize the returned sample so you can inspect the evidence.
Wikipedia articles
Open the articles associated with returned matches. Read the topic, surrounding passage and purpose of the citation before drawing a conclusion.
Linked resources
See whether the records point to your homepage, a report or another resource. Inspect the actual destination rather than assuming similar URLs are the same page.
Article and URL counts
Separate returned records, distinct articles and destinations. Multiple Wikipedia articles do not create multiple independent referring websites.
Filters and grouping
Find useful article titles and destinations in the records already returned. Local filters organize that sample; they do not discover more backlinks.
Source and time context
Keep the target, selected scope, UTC index-retrieval time when available, and cache context with the report. Older cached samples may have unknown collection time and age. A recent response can reuse an earlier sample; neither time is a fresh check of every article.
Optional sample exports
Where enabled, export available CSV or JSON data with its source and limits. A filtered download remains a view of the same bounded sample.
Keep a manual review beside the evidence. Add temporary notes and a review decision in this tab. Your decision does not change the source records. These controls do not create a saved project or scheduled monitoring.
When you choose to add useful evidence to the publisher brief, it is appended for your review. Existing brief text is preserved, and nothing is automatically submitted or ordered.
Five practical steps
How to use the backlink checker
- Choose the questionDecide whether you are researching a website, hostname, folder or exact page.
- Set the targetEnter the address and choose its matching scope. Use a full URL for a specific resource.
- Run the lookupComplete human verification and read the source and coverage information alongside the result.
- Inspect useful matchesOpen important articles and destinations. Recorded evidence can differ from the page you see now.
- Keep the boundariesRetain the sample limit with your notes or downloads, then choose the next research tool.
Illustrative example — not a measured report
12 records, eight articles, four destinations
That sample might show several citations pointing to an older report. Open the articles, inspect which version readers reach, and review any necessary content maintenance or relevant redirect on your own site.
You have evidence about eight articles in this example. You have not established 12 distinct referring websites, complete web coverage or a ranking advantage.
Understand the units
Backlinks are not referring domains
A backlink is a link from another website’s page to your website. The source URL contains the link; the target URL is its destination.
A referring domain is a distinct website containing links. Several Wikipedia articles may cite your resource while belonging to the same source website. Article breadth and referring-domain breadth are different measurements.
Read what backlinks are and how to assess them for a wider review method.
Review more than the count
Read the citation’s topic and purpose. Does the destination support the explanation and help its intended reader? Is the resource still available and useful?
The free source does not supply anchor text, link attributes, authority scores or live/lost history. Those questions need additional evidence.
An authority score or a large link count cannot establish relevance, editorial acceptance or guaranteed ranking credit.
Know what was measured
Data sources, freshness and limitations
The source boundary belongs beside the result, not in fine print. Treat recorded link data as a research lead and verify important source pages before relying on their current contents.
One specialized free source
Free mode uses Wikimedia’s external-link index for English Wikipedia. It is not a complete inventory of the websites linking to your target.
Retrieval is not a new crawl
Read the measured index-retrieval time, when available, separately from response-processing time and any cache-age note. Unknown legacy timestamps stay unknown. These describe the sample’s handling, not when every article was independently rechecked.
No matches is not no backlinks
A successful empty response means no matches were returned for this query. An unavailable source or failed request is missing evidence, not a meaningful zero.
Optional indexed report. Broader backlink research requires a connected, owner-authorized source. The separate panel supports DataForSEO or Ahrefs, but no indexed source is currently connected. It is unavailable until source setup is completed.
Its current scopes are exact hostname without child subdomains, or exact URL with the same scheme, path and query. It does not automatically remove www. DataForSEO hostname mode requires a hostname without www; use exact URL for a specific www page.
When enabled, the panel retrieves a bounded provider response. Available fields depend on the source and configuration. Provider discovery dates and statuses are not independent source-page checks.
Link counts and automated labels cannot diagnose a Google penalty. Do not make a disavow decision from a sample or a score alone; follow Google’s disavow guidance and review the underlying evidence carefully.

Backlink Checker FAQs
Is this backlink checker free?
The English Wikipedia lookup is free and returns up to 50 matching records. It is separate from a connected indexed report, whose availability and limits depend on the site’s configuration.
Does it check all backlinks to my website?
No. Free mode covers English Wikipedia’s recorded external links. Even broader provider reports depend on their coverage, grouping, selected scope and retrieval limits.
Why are no backlinks showing?
Review the input and scope. A successful empty sample means no matches were returned for that query; it does not prove there are no links elsewhere. Failed requests and unavailable sources are separate outcomes.
Can I check a specific page?
Yes. Choose Exact URL and submit the full page address. URL-prefix mode is available for a prefix investigation. Keep the same scope when comparing results.
Does free mode show anchors or follow attributes?
No. This Wikipedia source does not supply anchor text or follow attributes. Inspect a known source page separately, or use an available indexed source that explicitly supplies those fields.
Can I export the result?
Use the optional CSV or JSON controls when enabled. Keep the source, scope, dates and coverage information with the data. Filtering and exporting do not expand the returned sample.
Are article matches separate referring domains?
No. Several Wikipedia articles can reference your resource while belonging to the same source website. Count distinct articles separately from independent referring domains.
Why do backlink checkers show different totals?
They use different indexes, refresh schedules, normalization, duplicate rules, historical coverage and limits. Compare similar targets within the same source before treating a difference as growth or loss.
Is this a Google backlink checker?
No. This tool does not access Google’s private backlink index. Google Search Console has a separate sampled Links report for properties you are authorized to access.
Will checking backlinks improve my rankings?
Running a check does not change rankings. Use the evidence to maintain a useful resource or plan a suitable editorial campaign. Link counts alone cannot guarantee rankings or AI citations.
From reviewed evidence to a clear brief
Request a relevant publisher shortlist
Share your target page, audience, topic, market and source examples. EduGuestPost can review suitable publisher options and confirm current availability, content requirements, pricing and link terms for your approval.
Explore the guest post publisher marketplace, or request guest posting and blogger outreach for a managed recommendation.
A competitor’s backlink does not prove a publisher accepts guest posts. This brief requests a recommendation and quote; it does not place an order. Publication, indexing, rankings and AI citations are not guaranteed. Paid placements should use appropriate link qualifications.
Include the target URL, market, topic, useful resource and any source examples you want reviewed. No purchase or outreach is triggered by a tool result.
Understand the sources behind your links
